As we approach the end of 2024, we want to take a moment to express our thanks for your support as we started our catchment journey.

Your support and commitment makes a real difference to our land, water and people as we continue this journey to ensure the sustainability of our environment.

Highlights from the year

As the year draws to a close, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on what we’ve achieved together and share some exciting plans for the year ahead. This year was a big learning curve, we aim to improve and learn from our first events, we think the start of our journey has given us opportunities to grow, learn and connect. We feel pleased with what we’ve accomplished:

 

Events and Trainings:

 

  • 10 Woolshed workshops

  • Stakeholders Lunch June 10th Te Karaka Station

  • Launching our new Website

  • Matt Chisholm Rural Support Time out Tour  July 6th 

  • Official West Waikato Coastal Communities Catchment Launch 18th August 2024 with Cam Speedy - Wildlife Management

  • 2 x workshops 17 and 23 September Smart Meal Prep and Freezer Hacks with Laura from The Kiwi Country Girl  

  • Natives day with Adam Thompson - Restore Native at 4 venues Monday 21 October

  • Te Akau School winning the NZ landcare comp to host NZ  Paralympian Devon Briggs 29 November

  • Psychological First Aid course Tuesday 26 November 

  • Spud in a bucket weigh in at the Christmas fete November 30th

 

Whats coming in 2025!!

We’re already looking ahead with plans to keep the momentum going...

  • Sharing past events on the website blog pages, keeping you in the loop. Check it out here.

  • Cam Speedy - pest audits at two separate venues covering 8000ha followed by workshops explaining results.

  • Water Quality will be tested in 9 main waterways over the next year.

  • Several small water workshops (similar to the woolshed workshops) with consultants to explain what the WWCC catchment is doing, how to read the data, including eDNA (Environmental DNA).

  • Digital Platform - we are very excited that the committee has agreed we will be embarking on a mapping digital platform with access to all in the community, this will show water data, pest audits and workshops with photos.

  • First Aid, March/April, date TBC (Note the change in date due to February being a busy month).

  • Stoney Creek have kindly sponsored WWCC to have uniforms for the staff, this may be extended to become available for purchase for the wider committee and members.

  • Workshops Halter and Eshepherd - virtual fencing.

On behalf of the WWCC Committee, we would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and hope you can find some time for a well-deserved break this festive season and summer.
